Sewing - Baby Quilt

My niece was born March 2009 and to mark her arrival I thought I'd make a baby quilt.  I'd only made one the previous year in blues, greens and yellows (didn't think to take photos of my creations back then) for my friend's new baby son.

With this quilt I thought I'd use some pretty pink satin ribbon to give it a different texture.  Hadn't anticipated how difficult it would make sewing.  It's smooth silky and slippery and doesn't feed into machine very well.  Hence wobbly sewing!  Out of frustration I abandoned the project for over a year and have completed it this weekend!  Phew!  Finally!

I want to start a new sewing project but had to finish the quilt.  I have far too many half started craft projects I couldn't stand to have another!

  1. Wow, you are very talented, u know baking, cooking and sewing all at the same time, virtues that can hardly be found in a modern-day wife ;p

  2. Aww... Too Kind! You too are an amazing lady to do all your breadwork by hand - I use the Kenwood Mixer and leave it running (although dbl mix did go everywhere!) How you find time and motivation to study on top of it all is astounding! :0)

  3. hehe, I am now using the breadmachine which i bought from ALDI to do the bread kneading cos I absolutely hate playing with sticky dough. Only when its firmer, then I do some kneading and haping by hand.

  4. Good idea to get machine to do sticky work - couldn't agree more! It's better once butter incorporated. These days I only oil my hands if dough sticky - I don't add flour when using your sweet bread dough recipe. Works well too!

  5. I love this! I have one myself when I was young and I still have it with me. But I'm keeping it in the cupboard, felt too wasteful to use it. You are so talented! I can't sew :P

  6. Ah, you should show it off - not leave it unadmired in the cupboard! Some people make quilts as wallhangings! I guess they can be a centre of attention that way! Oh, I can't sew! My mum was a seamstress when younger - I just wish I learnt to sew earlier - although she had a big scary, noisy and fast industrial sewing machine when I was a child. If I used that I'd have stitched my fingers together - I'd be "Duck Hands"!

  7. You are so multi-skilled! The ribbon really adds sparkle to the quilt. I have a lot of UFO's floating around (un-finished objects), one day my kids might inherit them ha ha ha..

  8. Aww...thanks Shaz! This was unbfinshed for a looong time! Glad it's over but makes me want to make one for Minh! I think I prefer smaller projects where the end of the tunnel isn't so far away. I've crocheted Minh a blanket but after sewing all the squares, I think I want it bigger! So, although we use blanket now, it technically, is unfinished.
Have been at the machine and made another bag - for me this time & it's rather nice!
